I finished Mockingjay last night and I really enjoyed it. Dan read it first, and he's been waiting all week to talkt to me about it, so we had to hash it out last night. We were both thoroughly satisfied with the ending. Unlike Harry Potter that left me wishing Harry had actually shown some guts or actual skill and fought someone for real, I was so happy that Katniss was able to show her courage and be a part of the rebellion while at the same time exhibiting her compassion and the lessons she learned in the arena. The author didn't leave her off the hook from having to make tough choices. And, unlike Twilight, Suzanne Collins has an easy-to-read but grab-you-so-you-can't-let-go kind of style to her writing that I never got tired of. Her characters were multilayered and developed and the plot kept on being interesting right to the end.
If you haven't picked up this series yet, it's well worth it. A diamond in the rough that has not received as much attention as it really deserves.
